Q - Will I get rich taking surveys ?

A - NO , and any so called survey company that says you will is a scam ,and should be avoided. You WILL make a very good extra income. Expect $1 - $10 per survey, and occasionally a focus group survey that can pay $20 and up. You could win a survey companies sweepstakes and feel rich for a while, but I haven't seen one that pays over a $50,000 grand prize, not saying there aren't any.- just expect a very good 2nd income if you sign up with ALL the companies on my free list.

Q - What is a focus group ?

A - It is a special live survey where a group of panelist is invited to participate at a given time and a moderator will ask questions that you answer.

Q - What is a focus group facility ?

A - There are thousands of Focus group facilities across the country. Many people do not realize that there may be several facilities in their own city. Marketing research professionals, brand manager, social service agencies, political analysts, product developers and scientists are just a few of the people who use focus group facilities. You'll find the facilities warm, inviting places, with friendly and professional staff.

There will most likely be multiple focus group and interview rooms in single facility. The picture of the room shown below is typical in that it has a conference table setting for group discussions, led by a professional moderator. It is normal for rooms to have special mirrored partitions and special audio equipment. Behind the one-way glass window there is another room where a team of researchers may, or may not be observing the discussion.

Q - Why do I have to give so much information about myself when I sign up with a survey company ?

A - A legitimate survey company uses the information that you provide on the registration forms to assess demographic trends and to know which surveys match your interests.

Q - Is my information safe with survey companies ?

A - Yes, your information is only used to gather information for surveys, your name is not included with your answers on surveys.

Q - Will I receive spam ?

A - NO, never ever from a LEGITIMATE survey company, I promise.

Q - How do I know if a survey company is legitimate ?

A - If they are on my list then I will guarantee that they are legitimate. If you are still concerned, there are four organizations that were created to uphold ethical survey research, and a legitimate survey company will be registered with one or more ofthese organizations. These organizations are :MRA- Marketing Research Association ,AMA - American Marketing Association ,AAPOR- American Association for Public Opinion Research, and CASRO- Council of American Survey Research Organization.

Q - What about all the information I give when I fill out a survey ?

A - When you fill out a survey, they will use your responses along with other participants responses to inform their clients about peoples attitudes about their products or services. The information will give their clients a general picture of what types of people filled out the survey : how many men vs. women, average level of education, income bracket, etc.

Q - Why do I have to give my physical address ?

A - If they pay by check they need to know where to send it, and they need to know where to send products to test.

Q - Do I ever have to pay anything ?

A - NEVER, a legitimate survey company pays you.

Q - What about those websites that offer lists of survey companies for a fee

A - I have never bought a list and I cannot say for a fact that my list has all the companies that their list have. They are not really what I would call scams (except that most of them exaggerate the amount of money you can make). I just feel like I can find all the companies myself. Some of these list sellers may even advertise on this site, all I can say is use your own judgment . You can always just use the free list I have listed here for you and donate with the PayPal button if you think my service is worth it to you.

Q - Do I have to take every survey ?

A - I certainly would try, most companies will stop sending surveys if you don't complete most of them that they send. And you can't make money without a little work.

Q - How do I get more surveys from a company ?

A - You need to go to a companies website once in a while . They will know that you visited and are still interested. And you can check your account while you are there to see how much they owe you.

Q - Do all survey companies pay cash ?

A - No, some are sweepstakes only, some pay only cash, some pay cash for some surveys, and sweepstakes for others. Some pay in points which can be converted into cash or gift certificates / merchandise .

Q- Do those sweepstakes really pay out ?

A - Yes, in the U.S. sweepstakes are watched very carefully and the sweepstakes are conducted by a company which is completely independent from the survey company.

Q- What should I do if I have a problem with a survey company ?

A - I never have had a problem and don't think you will either, but if you do then you should contact Survey Police (they are our watch dog for survey companies), then you should contact me and I will post it here. You may also want to report scams to any site on this list : INTERNET CRIME COMPLAINT CENTER

Q- I have seen some survey companies that are not included on your list, why don't you list them ?

A - I may not know about them yet, in which case I ask that you please contact me with information about them. But more likely I do know about them and have determined them to be scams. I spend a lot of time researching survey companies. I sign up and wait to see what happens, if they turn out to be scams I do not list them.

Q - Will I receive phone calls, do I have to give my phone number ?>

A - Most survey companies do ask for a phone number when you sign up. They may need to contact you if you win a sweepstakes and for some follow up survey questions. Once I tested some dog food (actually my dogs tested it) and the survey company phoned me to ask how the dogs liked it. Another time it was shampoo I was testing and they called just to make sure I received it. If you fill out a survey that has follow up questions via phone they will tell you in the survey and you can decline. And like with email #link_whyitsfree#link_whyitsfreeaddresses , they will NOT sell your phone number. If you do receive unwanted phone calls, do not automatically blame the survey companies as there are other ways for telemarketers to get your number and always sign up with the "Do Not Call List" (find the banner below and click on it to sign up).

Q - What is marketing research ?

A - Market research and marketing research are often confused. 'Market' research is simply research into a specific market. It is a very narrow concept. 'Marketing' research is much broader. It not only includes 'market' research, but also areas such as research into new products, or modes of distribution such as via the Internet. Here are a couple of definitions:

"Marketing research is the function that links the consumer, customer, and public to the marketer through information - information used to identify and define marketing opportunities and problems; generate, refine, and evaluate marketing actions; monitor marketing performance; and improve understanding of marketing as a process. Marketing research specifies the information required to address these issues, designs the methods for collecting information, manages and implements the data collection process, analyzes, and communicates the findings and their implications."
